THE ANZAI GALLERYは ART FAIR TOKYO 2024 にて韓国人アーティスト Hyangmok Baik による展示 ”It was early” を開催いたします。皆様のご来場を心よりお待ち申し上げます。

 

THE ANZAI GALLERY is pleased to its participation in “ART FAIR TOKYO 2024”starting March 7th (Thu) - 10th (Sun). We are exhibiting works by Hyangmok Baik, an artist from South Korea.  We look forward seeing you at our booth.

HYANGMOK BAIK(1990年生まれ、韓国)

韓国・ソウル在住。2019年、弘益大学校ファインアート修士課程卒業。

人種や背景、価値基準によって憎しみや暴力が生まれる現代社会に対して、作家は作品を通してユートピアを表現しています。博愛主義的に世界に接する作家が描くユートピアは、誰も苦しまず、危険因子もない安全な空間であり、様々なシンボル、メタファー、モチーフが登場します。作品中の群像は、現実の選択の岐路に立つ私たち自身を表し、それぞれの選択行為を通して、ユートピアを愛で維持し守ろうとする現代人の自画像を描いています。作家が扱うのは、日常で体験した記憶と時間。意識と無意識の狭間にある断片的な記憶を残像に結びつけ、日々の体験を様々なメディアと色彩で表現し、新たに組み合わせ、羅列しています。彩色と被覆のプロセスを繰り返すことで、時間の意味を表し、記憶の断片を構築。立体のイメージを遠近法を省略した平面に配置することで、様々な物語を統合し、新たな物語を形成しています。自画像でもある登場人物の無表情なまなざしは、表情を失った現代人の内面の空虚さを表現しています。

作品中にパスワードのように表示されるテキストは、観客が時間の経験を通して作品の主題に入り込み、意味を把握し解釈するための装置として機能しており、作家は、パンデミック前後の時代におけるユートピアを通じた希望を強調し、記念碑的で解放的な人生観を共有しています。作品を通して観客に休息とエネルギーを提供することで、私たちが今生きているそれぞれの人生が、愛に満ちたエデンとなることを願っています。

HYANGMOK BAIK (b. 1990, South Korea)

lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. He graduated in 2019 with an MA in Fine Art from Hongik University.

Through the work, the artist represents a utopia for the modern society where hatred and violence ariseaccording to race, background, and value standards. The utopia, which the writer who treats the worldphilanthropically, is a safe space where no one is in pain and no risk factors, and various symbols,metaphors, and motifs appear. The group images in the work represent ourselves at a crossroads of choicein reality, and depict the self-portraits of modern people who want to maintain and protect utopia with lovethrough the act of each choice.The writer deals with the memories and times experienced in daily life. The fragmentary memories betweenconsciousness and unconsciousness are connected to afterimage, and daily experiences are expressed invarious media and colors to be newly combined and listed. The process of coloring and covering are repeated to represent the meaning of time and build fragments of memory. The images of the three-dimensional images are placed on a plane in which perspective is omitted to unite various stories and form a new narrative. The expressionless gaze of the characters, who are also self-portraits, shows the inner emptiness of modern people who lose their expressions. Text that appears like a password in the work acts as a device for the audience to enter the subject of the work through the experience of time to grasp and interpret the meaning. The artist shares a monumental and liberating view of life, highlighting hope through utopia in the era before and after the pandemic. We hope that each life we live now by providing rest and energy to the audience will be an Eden full of love.
